First Sunday after Epiphany
Jesus escapes the sword in the gospel on this day—but not for long—not forever. He died for us. He died for the world, to put an end to the cycle of violence that continues to claim innocent victims. Rachel’s lament, recorded in Jeremiah and echoed in Matthew, is not the last word. “There is hope for your future,” says the Lord.
