First Lutheran Church of the Trinity is saying Farwell to Pastor Cheryl. The Reverend Doctor Cheryl Pero has served as interim pastor at First Trinity for the 10 months and has made quite an impact on the community in that time. Pastor Cheryl completed her Ph.D. in New Testament at LSTC in 2010 and became the first African American Lutheran woman to earn that degree. In 1980, she became the second African American woman ordained in the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). After briefly serving on the churchwide staff of the LCA, Rev. Pero served parishes in Chicago and worked in campus ministry for 12 years. She is recently retired from the The Albert “Pete” Pero Jr. Multicultural Center at LSTC.
During her time at First Trinity, Pastor Cheryl was known for reminding congregants that we belong to God. She has built relationship with many in our community, especially seniors and those experiencing homelessness. She will be greatly missed.
First Trinity will be celebrating Pastor Cheryl’s time with us with worship followed by a potluck lunch on Sunday, June 30 at 10:30 am. First Trinity is located at 643 W 31st Street. All Are Welcome + You Are Invited.
