On Ash Wednesday the church began its journey toward baptismal immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ. This year, the Sundays in Lent lead us to focus on five covenants God makes in the Hebrew Scriptures and to use them as lenses through which to view baptism. First Peter connects the way God saved Noah’s family in the flood with the way God saves us through the water of baptism. The baptismal covenant is made with us individually, but the new life we are given in baptism is for the sake of the whole world.

The week of March 19-24, we will need help preparing the sanctuary for Easter. Details will be announced shortly.

Palm Sunday – On Sunday, March 25 we will gather in the chapel at 10:30 and will march around the block with our Palms, arriving in the sanctuary in for worship! We ask that those who would like to join in the marching gather around 10:15 to practice songs and prepare for the procession.

Maundy Thursday – Thursday, March 29, 7 pm, will be our annual Maundy Thursday worship and foot washing ceremony. This service ends with silently stripping the altar to prepare for Good Friday.

Easter Egg Decorating – Youth are invited to join us during God’s Closet, 10 am on March 30, to decorate eggs. The Easter eggs will be used for our Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday.

Good Friday – Our annual Tenebrae service takes place on Friday, March 30 at 7 pm. If you are interested in sharing a story (on one of the last words of Christ) please speak to Pastor Tom soon.

Easter Sunday is April 1. We will have worship at 10:30 am, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck Brunch. We will be looking for donations for the egg hunt and will have a sign up sheet for the potluck shortly.

TBD – The Easter Bunny will visit during God’s Closet one night in Lent. He’s still on winter vacation so as soon as he gets back we’ll set a date!

Lenten offering – Lent is a time when many people give something up or take something on as a reminder of the sacrifice that Christ made for us. Some people like to include a stewardship item in their lenten practice. This might look like a service project or an extra donation, perhaps it is making a meal for God’s Closet or donating socks for our neighbors in need.
