Sometimes during our community meals we get a lot of requests for a recipe! Tonight’s SOS (same ol’ stuff) is in the style of Rene’s dad, who claims it comes from the Air Force. This recipe uses ground beef, onion and mushroom soup, but variations include using chipped beef, ground pork or turkey, any sorts of vegetables, or a homemade milk gravy. This is how we make it for God’s Closet, and make plenty for about 50 people.
All of this goes into the biggest crock pot we have:
- 5 pounds ground beef – lightly browned
- 2 onions, diced and browned
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 8 cans cream of mushroom soup
- 2 cans beef broth
Let it all cook on low for at least two hours, then serve on top of a slice of toast. Also good on rice, potatoes, noodles… but the other name, “stuff on a shingle” is because of the toast!
